The
Brotherhood of Harmony’s Interim director is Matt MacFadyen, a
resident of Chicago, and longtime barbershop harmony musician.
Matt earned his undergraduate degree as a music
education major at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
While at college, he sang in an a cappella ensemble called the
“Xtension Chords.” He served as its musical director for three years,
and under his leadership, the Xtension Chords produced two albums and
toured the Midwest and East Coast.
Matt’s first job out of college was
teaching music in a middle school in Grayslake where he also directed
the 7th and 8th grade chorus and accompanied
students on piano who were entering musical competitions.
He currently is a broker for Aon’s
Financial Services Group, responsible for placing management liability
products for privately-held companies.
In 2001, Matt joined the New
Tradition Chorus of Northbrook where he served on the music team, as the
baritone section leader and as assistant director.
Since the Brotherhood of Harmony
was formed in 2003, Matt had been the assistant musical director. In
2005 he received the chorus’ highest honor, “Barbershopper of the Year”
for his dedication, enthusiasm and service. After the departure of
Todd Wilson in May of 2007, Matt was named our Interim Director.
Matt also has experience in various
quartets – lead in “Final Four,” then baritone in “Gangbusters!,” the
2002 International quartet qualifier. He also sang baritone in the 2002
Illinois District quartet champs, “Aces High,” and the 2003
International collegiate silver medalist quartet, “Vocal Tonic.” |
